TOOLS REQUIRED
- PeloSmith™ Complete Bottom Bracket Repair Kit
- Crank Arm Bolt Wrench
- Crank Puller Tool
- Groove Joint Pliers
- Torque Wrench
PROCEDURE
STEP 1 – REMOVE BELT GUARD
Remove the belt guard by unscrewing the fasteners located on the user left side of the bike.
STEP 2 – REMOVE DRIVE BELT
Carefully remove the drive belt from the drive pulley.

STEP 3 – REMOVE CRANK ARM BOLTS
Using the crank arm bolt wrench, remove both crank arm bolts.

STEP 4 – PREPARE CRANK PULLER
Ensure the end of the crank puller is flush (fully seated) before use.

STEP 5 – INSTALL CRANK PULLER
- Thread the crank puller into the crank arm by hand (clockwise).
- Start slowly to avoid cross-threading.
- Once resistance is felt, use a wrench to fully tighten the tool.
IMPORTANT:
- No more than 2–3 threads should remain visible.
- Improper insertion can damage crank arm threads and may require full frame replacement.
STEP 6 – REMOVE CRANK ARM
Turn the center (silver) rod of the crank puller clockwise to remove the crank arm.
- High force is required — this is normal.
CRITICAL ROTATION NOTE
From this point forward:
- Removal Direction: Toward the Handlebar
- Installation Direction: Away from the Handlebar
Reference:
TTHB = Turn Toward Handle Bar (Removal)
STEP 7 – REMOVE LOCK RING
Using groove joint pliers:
- Turn counterclockwise (TTHB)
- Grip only the lock ring
WARNING:
If the pliers contact the frame, the lock ring will not rotate properly.

STEP 8 – ATTACH REMOVAL TOOL
Connect the bottom bracket removal tool to a torque wrench.

STEP 9 – REMOVE BOTTOM BRACKET
- Insert the removal tool into the bottom bracket
- Rotate TTHB (toward handlebar) on both sides
NOTE:
- The right side uses reverse threading
- Additional assistance may be required to stabilize the tool during removal
INSTALLATION
Repeat all steps in reverse order to install the new bottom bracket.
FINAL TORQUE & SAFETY NOTES
- Apply equal or greater force during installation as was required for removal
- Ensure all components are fully seated and secure
- Improper tightening may result in:
- Premature wear
- Noise
- Component failure
SUMMARY
Proper installation of the bottom bracket is critical for performance, safety, and longevity. Following these steps precisely will ensure a secure and professional repair.
