The Peloton® Treadmill Rear Roller (technically referred to in mechanical diagrams as the rear idler roller) acts as the secondary anchoring axis for your moving tracking deck. Positioned at the very back of the treadmill base frame, this heavy, crowned steel cylinder is responsible for maintaining lateral belt centering, managing longitudinal tension, and absorbing high-impact foot strikes without flexing.

If you notice a rhythmic clicking sound at the back of the deck, a high-pitched metallic squeaking, or a vibrating thud that intensifies as speed increases, the precision internal bearings inside your rear roller have typically worn down or lost their factory lubrication.
Precision Crowned Construction: The cylinder features a subtle taper—slightly thicker in the center than at the margins—which naturally coaxes the walking belt back toward the exact midline of the frame during sudden speed shifts.
Dual Sealed Ball Bearings: Packed with heavy-duty, factory-sealed cartridge bearings designed to isolate the spinning internal axle from ambient sweat, micro-debris, and highly abrasive static dust.
Precision Structural Adjustment Mounts: Outfitted with threaded lateral receiver sockets that accommodate your long rear alignment bolts, allowing you to fine-tune track centering and tension tracking parameters.
Replacing a failing rear idler roller takes approximately 15 to 25 minutes using standard metric T-handle wrenches:
Turn off the main power switch near the baseline frame and UNPLUG THE TREADMILL FROM THE WALL OUTLET to prevent any accidental belt startups while working near pinch points.
Before turning any hardware, count the exposed threads on your left and right rear roller tracking bolts or mark them with tape. Turn both tracking bolts counter-clockwise evenly to fully slacken the walking belt.
Completely back out the tracking bolts from the rear end cap sockets. Slide the old, noisy Rear Idler Roller out from the belt loop and pull its mounting tabs clear of the structural side rail guides.
Slide your new Replacement Rear Roller through the walking belt loop and seat it into the left and right frame slots. Re-thread the tracking bolts, tightening them to your recorded thread marks. Run the machine slowly at 2 MPH, making 1/4-turn tweaks to center the track perfectly.
Operating an advanced interactive fitness machine with a grinding or warped rear tracking system introduces severe vibrational resistance across your entire drivetrain layout. This extra friction drag causes your walking belt to track off-center, rubbing against the plastic side rails and forcing your drive motor and lower motor control board (MCB) to draw dangerous electrical current spikes to keep up with pace commands. Replacing a noisy roller early prevents catastrophic structural tracking tears and shields your expensive core electronics modules from premature burnouts.
